Unlike many activity platforms, CursusX follows a Privacy by Architecture approach.
Personal activity data is processed locally on the user's own device whenever technically possible.
Only information intentionally shared by users or required to provide public community features is transmitted to the platform.
Some activity information is processed locally on the user's device. Depending on the feature used, selected activity and location data may also be transmitted to the CursusX Platform in order to provide the requested service.

Users remain in control of which information becomes publicly visible wherever the platform provides such choices.
Users may optionally provide feedback about places, routes or activities. Depending on the feature, this may include structured ratings or impressions as well as an optional free-text comment.
This feedback is voluntary. It may be stored by the CursusX Platform together with the context necessary to interpret it, such as the related place, route or activity. Users should not include personal or sensitive information in optional free-text comments unless they intend to provide that information.
Aggregated or appropriately anonymized feedback may be used to improve CursusX and encirkl, to visualize general place-related impressions in map layers, or to provide insights to municipalities, research partners, organizations or other participating partners. Such use is intended to describe collective patterns and not to identify individual users.
The encirkl mobile application uses a pseudonymous application identifier generated on the user's device. This identifier may be transmitted to the CursusX Platform and used to associate activities, progress, preferences and other application data with the same installation or user profile.
The identifier does not by itself contain a user's name, email address or phone number. Where users voluntarily provide personal information, that information may be associated with the corresponding profile for the requested feature.
Most features of the platform can be used without providing personal information.
Certain partner-operated challenges or reward programs may optionally request additional information such as:

Businesses, organizations and communities may offer public challenges and reward programs through the CursusX Platform.
Where required, only the information necessary to operate the respective challenge or reward is made available.
The mobile application may request access to the device camera solely for functions such as scanning QR codes, redeeming rewards or restoring an application identifier.
Images are processed only for the requested action.

Where possible, analytics are configured without identifying individual visitors.

Activity, location, profile and application-identifier data transmitted to the platform may be retained for as long as needed for the relevant feature or until the associated data is deleted, subject to any applicable legal retention requirements.
